What is it to rule the world?
Is it a burden, or a power?
Throughout the ages
Men have tried to attain world power
But, in the throws of egomaniacal slips
They were felled by their dissident subjects
The top of the world is lonely
Cold and void of life
Why would you wish to sit there
If it meant world domination?
Like a greedy child
That snatches toys from his peers
One seizes control
Over one country after another
But what happens when youve taken everyones toys
And theres no-one to play with?
Power over people that hate you
That you hate
Not caring for the sufferers
Isnt that what a dictator does?
But where is the satisfaction
When no-one wishes to listen
And leaves you alone, the king on his throne
Rising to power only to fall
Like an ant flicked from a picnic table
That hed tried so hard to climb to the summit
People looking to you alone for help
The sick, the war-stricken, the starved
And you can never help them
All youve got is a lonely globe of dirt
Spinning sadly in a universe too big
For this king of nothing
What to do with this weeping planet?
Let go of your iron grip
That you think you have on this world
Embrace it in its stead
Give back what youd taken
Help what you have hurt, then look back and see life as it lives
Free, uninhibited, unshackled
Ruling the earth is a great liability
Would you rather be a part of it, than the ruler?
Tell others who follow in your steps
What it means to dominate the earth
Needing help all who need it
Unable to do it all on your own
You must ask them
What is it to rule the world?

A demon in the light.
Angel hidden in darkness.
Not what you expected?
Just as it should be.
